Libraries II

To complete the post from yesterday, my colleague Monika just send me several links about the Biblioteca Thysiana. In the Wikipedia article about the Leiden University Library there is some information and a picture of the outside. The site from the University itself also has informations, but in Dutch, and some other pictures. The other links are unfortunately in Dutch. Where I was yesterday that I didn't find all this? Para completar o post de ontem, minha colega Monika acabou de me mandar vários links sobre a Biblioteca Thysiana. No artigo da Wikipedia sobre a Biblioteca da Universidade de Leinden há alguma informação e uma foto do exterior. O próprio site da Universidade também tem informações, mas em holandês, e mais algumas fotos. Infelizmente os outros links são em holandês. Onde eu estava com a cabeça ontem que não achei isso tudo? Libraries

Today I visited a very interesting library called Biblioteca Thysiana, it's from the XVII century but remains exactly as it was. Unfortunatelly, there is no website, I didn't take pictures and I didn't found much online information... Still in the Libraries subject, Rachel posted about that she really has to visit a library in Washington (where she lived for many years). I have to admit that I lived in Rio de Janeiro for two years and I have never visited the Real Gabinete Português de Leitura (picture above). I really have to do it next time.

Hoje eu visitei uma biblioteca muito interessante chama Biblioteca Thysiana, ela é do século XVII e permanece intacta, como era. Infelizmente ela não tem site, eu não tirei fotos e não achei muita informação online... Ainda no assunto biblioteca, a Rachel falou que ela precisa visitar uma biblioteca em Washington (onde morou por muitos anos). Eu tenho que admitir que morei no Rio de Janeiro por dois anos e nunca visitei o Real Gabinete Português de Leitura (foto acima). Eu preciso fazer isso da próxima vez, sem dúvida!

Bibliopolis

Bibliopolis is a project that tells the History of the Printed Book in the Netherlands. First came the website, later it was turned into a book. Very, very interesting. In English as well.

Essa obra fica no prédio da Faculdade de Direito de Leiden e é de Ni Haifeng. Vale a pena dar uma olhadinha no site do artista, para ver mais obras que usam com base os livros. Nessa onda, não deixem de dar uma passadinha no blog da Lú, que essa semana postou muitos artistas que usam livros em suas obras.

This work is in the Law Faculty building, in Leiden, it is by Ni Haifeng. It worths to take a look in the artist website. In the same way, Lú has posted this week several artists that use books in their art, go there and take a look.

Dick Bruna

O designer holandês Dick Bruna completa 80 anos no dia 23 de agosto. Ele ficou mais conhecido pelo personagem Miffy de seus livros infantis, mas ele também criou capas para muitos livros. Para comemorar seu aniversário, a Biblioteca Central de Rotterdam montou uma exposição dessas capas, de 16 de agosto a 16 de setembro. Infelizmente, só achei informações em holandês sobre a exposição, mas aqui você pode assisitir a um vídeo aqui.


August 23th is Dick Bruna's 80th birthday. This dutch designer is well known by his child character Miffy, but he also created a lot of book covers. To celebrate the date, the Central Library of Rotterdam organized an exposition with his covers, from August 16th to September 16th. Unfourtunately I just found information about it in dutch, but you can watch a video here.

OBA - Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam

A OBA (Biblioteca Pública de Amstedam) tem uma nova central, a ODE. Fica no porto, perto da estação central e do Muziekgebouw.

The OBA (Amsterdam's Public Library) has a new central, the ODE. It's in the harbor, near the central station and the Muziekgebow.

It's like a shop, but it's paradise!

Essa semana fomos a Rotterdam e comprei esse caderno na Harolds. Não é a toa que o slogan da loja seja "It's like a shop, but it's paradise!". É mesmo uma perdição. Para quem é de São Paulo, é como uma Casa do Artista, tão tentadora quanto, mas maior, muito maior... ;-)


This week we went to Rotterdam and I bought this notebook at Harolds. It's not by chance that the shop's slogan is "It's like a shop, but it's paradise!". It's heaven! A lot of papers and materials for painting, drawing, bookbinding, etc.

Fonds vor der Letteren

"O Fonds voor de Letteren (Fundação Holandesa para a Literatura) tem como objetivo estimular a qualidade e o acesso da literatura holandesa e frísia, assim como a literatura traduzida para o Holandês e o Frísio." E eles têm um programa de residência para autores estrangeiros em Amsterdam.

The Fonds voor de Letteren (Dutch Foundation for Literature) aims at stimulating the quality and availability of Dutch and Frisian literature, as well as literature translated into Dutch and Frisian." And they have a writer in residence program in Amsterdam.
